Senior Students

The Senior Students student’s within The Academy, Selsey are those students who epitomise “Pride in Excellence”, students who throughout their time at the Academy have always ensured that they have excelled through their learning,

The Senior Students student’s within The Academy, Selsey are those students who epitomise “Pride in Excellence”, students who throughout their time at the Academy have always ensured that they have excelled through their learning, attitude and contribution to the Academy.

The purpose of the Senior Student is:

  • To coordinate and encourage all student activities within the scope of the house system.

  • To work with the Senior Leadership team in all matters affecting the student body

  • To stimulate and develop good citizenship and democracy among students.

  • To encourage leadership opportunities students at The Academy, Selsey

  • Senior Students are responsible for representing and serving the needs of the student body through coordinating student activities and charity fundraisers and holding regular meetings.

Students apply to become senior students and are voted through to the final stages by their peers and staff to attend the interview process involving the Head teacher and senior staff

In addition, Senior Students take on specific responsibilities, beyond the standard duties, that will allow them to develop the Academy. This is an important role within the school, which requires them to act as a role model for other students in terms of behaviour, attitude and uniform.

Responsibilities including

  • supporting house, whole school events and performances and extra-curricular activities

  • assemblies

  • interact with staff and senior leaders

  • helping run parents and open evenings

  • inputting into the school termly newsletter

  • deciding on and facilitating and ‘cohort legacy project’

Becoming a senior student is a huge responsibility, which will be an asset for them in the future.



House Captains

Year 10 students play a pivotal role in the House system and can apply for the role of House Captains. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience real, tangible leadership within the school, and plays an integral role in developing the presence and importance of the House system and the competitions.
