Year 10 ICT

Description of activities

This course will develop the student’s understanding of ICT and the impact it has on different areas of society. They will learn to build complex databases, how computers work, how it impacts on society and the ICT development cycle.

Learning will be assessed through:

OCR GCSE in ICT

 Unit B061 – ICT in Today’s World – Written paper worth 20% of the final grade

Unit B062 – Practical Application of ICT – coursework unit worth 30% of the final grade.

Topics Covered and Controlled Assessment  Dates

Year 10

Autumn 1st half term

Students develop the basic skills in the MS Office Suite, with a particular emphasis on spreadsheets as this will be the topic for their first controlled assessment piece.

Autumn 2nd half term

Students will develop a deeper understanding of spreadsheets and modelling, using complex and compound formulae to create ICT solutions.

Spring 1st half term

Students will complete the B062 unit controlled assessment task.

Spring 2nd half term

Students will complete the B062 unit controlled assessment task.

Summer 1st half term

Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of ICT in today’s society and the basic components and peripherals of ICT.

Summer 2nd half term

Students will develop a deeper understanding of the way ICT impacts on employment, enterprise and families.

Controlled assessment/Coursework

This will be taken from a range of set tasks made available by the exam board. This will make up 30% of the final grade.

Planned Support:

Students can work in Room 28,  every lunchtime. They can also stay after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for individual or group support. There is also the opportunity to email for support on mtymon@theacademyselsey-tkat.org.
