Curriculum Area: Technology –Graphics

 

Overview of Course Content

During year 9 this course will refine a student’s understanding of the following areas:

  • Drawing, mixed media  and 2D work
  • 3D and sculptural work
  • Research and analysis of a range of artists
  • Developing an idea from a starting point using contextual references
  • Presentation of work
  • Creating individual and creative responses to a theme

Autumn 1

 

First project:

Observational drawing skills working from a range drinks containers. Students will work with a range of materials and will be shown effective ways to present work and creative use of materials to a GCSE standard.

 Students will evaluate work of artist Andy Warhol through pastiche, written work and work in style of.

Produce a tonal drawing of a still life object

Working in the style of an artist

Produce a study of an iconic can in the style of Andy Warhol

 

 

Autumn 2

 

Students compare Wayne Thiebaud to Robert Joyner. Create a copy of each artists work, and compare through written work.

Students will then set up their own still life arrangements (at least 4) and take photographs

And evaluate the photographs selecting best one

Students will use the grid method to enlarge their chosen image and apply colour using acrylic paint in the style of either Robert Joyner or Wayne Thiebaud.

 

Assessment task

 

Produce an original still life in spired by Joyner or Thiebaud.

Spring 1

Second Project begins:

Students  research Fish Sculpture supportive artist J.Vincent using mixed media approaches

Observational drawing skills working from a range of Sea creatures. Students will work with a range of materials and will be shown effective ways to present work and creative use of materials.

Produce a fish in the style of J.Vincent using mixed media.

Create a mixed media sea creature

 

Produce an accurate study of a sea creature using mixed media techniques.

Spring 2

Students plan and develop idea for their final sculpture based on Fish sculptures.

Students produce final response to Fish Sculpture project.

Reflect on artists and patterns studied as well as images produced to plan an original fish sculpture.

Summer 1

Third Project begins:

Students look at a project based on their environment. Students will mimic GCSE coursework style creating pastiches of artists work and then creating studies in the style of the artist and then reflecting on them. Supporting artists include Victoria Rick, Seth Clark and Ed Fairburn. Students will refine skills using a variety of materials including acrylic paint and collage. They will be encouraged to take own photographs of environment to work from.

Produce a study inspired by Seth Clark.

 

 

 

Summer 2

Students complete own observational studies of photos of their environment and begin to plan for their final response.

Final environment piece of work is created
